Very rare nightgown & crop top from Rudi Gernreich for L'intrigue. This set dates to 1967-68, I was able to find one other piece from this collection from Rudi Gernreich in the Met Museums on line database. There is so much to love about this ensemble and I can totally see Peggy Moffitt sporting this for Rudi.
The set consists of an empire waist gown and coordinating short crop top. The top covers up the exposed breasts that the nightgown so cleverly flaunts. The sleeveless top buttons at the front, has side hemline vents and is made of a lightweight cotton or cotton blend fabric. Tiny pink polka dots against a base white fabric compose the top.
The gown is made of a coordinating stripe print in turquoise against a base white. The details are stunning. First off the cut of the gown is such that the breasts remain exposed. Rolled spaghetti straps support the empire waist. The waist closes at the back with two buttons for adjustment. There is a coordinating self fabric belt in the pink polka dot fabric which threads through belt carriers. The belt is round and has a soft center, aprox 3/8" wide. The gown is softly pleated from the waist and falls to a full skirt. Pinked seams.
Both pieces are labeled Rudi Gernreich for L'intrigue, a division of Exquisite Form Industries. The tiny size and or fiber content tags are now just threads so I can not read the size, please go by measurements provided. The set is in excellent condition.
