A Modern Twist on Vintage Swimwear
In preparation for our first newsletter of the new year, we came across what is fast becoming a favorite website of ours at Glamoursurf. Some of you may already have visited this wonderful site, for some of you it may be new. All we can tell you is that it's filled with some wonderful Eye Candy! Sports Illustrated, has not only gorgeous models in swimsuits, but some fabulous vintage swimwear pictures and Sports Illustrated Covers dating back as early as the 1960's.
 Vintage 50's Rose Marie Reid Bathing Suit
Pictured here is lovely Laetitia Casta in a vintage 1950's Rose Marie Reid swimsuit photographed by Russell James for a Sports Illustrated year 2000 issue. The swimsuit is courtesy of William Doyle Galleries in New York City. The suit is called "Danseuse".
Rose Marie Reid was the first swimwear designer to come out with more than one line a year,
including a late summer line and a resort & cruisewear line
Her swimwear company sold more bathing suits that any other in the 1950's.
A few of the innovations Rose Marie developed in her suits included:
-Tummy control panels
-Paneling that reproportioned the body
-A long-line bra with plastic boning that creates a divided natural bust line, for full busts
-Vertical stripes that slimmed in a dress-like design, for full hips
-"Magic Length" suits for the long-waisted
-Stay-down legs via an innovative crotch panel
-Brief skirts for full figures
